Welding Basics

Next Course Set to Begin July 24, 2017!

Whether you want to expand your welding knowledge or you are starting from scratch, you’ll receive a great introduction during the Welding Basics class offered at RTEC. During this introductory 48-hour course, you’ll have an opportunity to learn the basics of the following welding types:

  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
  • Flux Cord Arc Welding
  • Aluminum Welding
  • Tig Welding

At the conclusion of the course, you will have a better understanding of the different types of welding and can choose to enroll in an upgrade course to build upon your skills and attempt to earn AWS certification.

Other topics to be covered in this basic course are:

  • Welding positions
  • Weld defects and repair
  • Welding symbols
  • Basic types of material
  • Safe operation of a cutting torch
  • Brazing and gas welding

The Welding Basics course, which is slated to be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings with special summer hours from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning July 24, is nearly full. Applications are being accepted for the next Welding Basics course which will is set to begin on Sept. 11 and end on Oct. 19, 2017. Regular class times, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., will resume.

Apply now! Cost of the course is $1,600 plus tax. (Note: Cost of the course will reflect a slight increase to $1,600 plus tax effective for classes beginning after July 1, 2017.)
