AWS Welder Testing

A weld test is an opportunity for a welder to prove their capabilities and earn certification. A Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) from RTEC will observe the welding process/s and evaluate the results.

A weld test demonstrates that a welder can:

• Properly assemble the work area

• Meet safety standards

• Adhere to specifications and code requirements

• Follow standard welding procedures (SWPs)

Keynotes:

(1) Plate = Plate Test, with or without backing

(2) Qualified Retests have to be completed within 6 months, please call to see if you qualify.

(3) Specialty test metals vary in cost. Please contact RTEC to set up pricing for any specialty metals.

WLX7101 AWS Certification Test, Plate(1) 1G (Flat Groove) [Stick or Wire] $500

A weld test in 1G position simulates one circumstance a welder may encounter on the job. The term 1G refers to the position of the welded materials or weld axis, which lay flat on a welding surface during the test.

WLX7102 AWS Certification Test, Plate 2G (Horizontal Groove) [Stick or Wire] $500

2G testing refers to a certification test that proves a welder can lay a horizontal weld in a groove joint between two metals.

WLX7103 AWS Certification Test, Plate 3G (Vertical Groove) [Stick only] $500

While doing the 3G weld test the welder must work slowly and against gravity when penetrating the joint between thick materials, in a vertical position.

WLX7104 AWS Certification Test, Plate 4G (Overhead Groove) [Stick only] $500

A 4G welding certification demonstrates a welder’s proficiency in the overhead position.

AWS Maintenance Renewal- $60 (+$50 late fee if applicable)

Fee for verifying and renewing of Welder Certification. Includes AWS $35 renewal fee or $85 renewal fee if after the renewal date.
